South African musician Tshego recently shared a touching story about how the late South African rapper Riky Rick saved his life.
Tshego recalled the day Riky called him, not knowing that Tshego had been on drugs for three days straight.
“I was probably on drugs 3 days straight, and he had no idea I even did drugs. Well, I personally never told him. I said “hello”, he said “JUST LET US KNOW IF WE SHOULD GIVE UP ON YOU BOIZEN”. That was the last day I touched hard drugs. I only told him that story years later.”
Riky’s words served as a wake-up call for Tshego, reminding him that the only person he would be letting down is himself.
“When there are no accolades I don’t cry, I do this for me. When there are no gigs I don’t cry, I do this for me. When there’s no money I don’t cry, I still do this shit for me. I would die for this… ME.”
Riky Rick, whose real name was Rikhado Makhado, was an award-winning South African rapper and fashion icon.
He tragically passed away by suicide in February 2022, leaving a mark on those who loved him.
