President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Thursday, 08 June, visit cholera hit Hammanskraal, the Presidency said on Wednesday.
This as the death toll from the cholera outbreak in the country’s hotspot climbed to 26.
“The outbreak of cholera in the community of Hammanskraal has caused devastation and the three spheres of government and their agencies, and non-governmental organisations have been seized with instituting mitigating measures to contain the spread of cholera.
President Ramaphosa will begin his visit to Hammanskraal with a stop over at the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment plant, following that will lead a delegation of government leaders to a community meeting in Hammanskraal.”
It will cost R4 billion to get clean water to residents in Hammanskraal by March 2024, as a refurbishment of the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works is required.
This according to the Minister of Water and Sanitation, Senzo Mchunu who says the project will take 3-years to complete if all goes as planned.
Deputy Director General at the Department of Water and Sanitation Risimati Mathye spoke to Phemelo Motene on Point of View about the possibility of a mobile water treatment plant for the people of Hammanskraal.
President Ramaphosa will interact with the community of Hammanskraal on the measures government is implementing.
The President will be accompanied by Ministers and Deputy Ministers, Gauteng Province Premier Panyaza Lesufi and the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Cllr Cilliers Brink.
