
Health Department still don’t know why there’s cholera in Hammanskraal.
24 people have died as a result of the waterborne disease outbreak so far.
The current cholera outbreak was not definitively linked to poor water quality, according to Health Minister Joe Phaahla. He said this in speaking at a media briefing in Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon,
Health Minister Joe Phaahla asserted that testing must be completed before drawing any conclusions, despite the water and sanitation department’s assertion that municipal wastewater treatment systems were deteriorating.

Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Health Department Spokesperson Foster Mohale about government’s efforts and interventions in response to the current cholera outbreak.
Mohale says the source of the deadly disease is still unknown.
“As of now we have not yet as government, working closely with non governmental organizations, we have not made any breakthrough of the possible cause of the outbreak, in Hammanskral.”
Mohale has urged those with symptoms to go to their nearest health facility.
“But this doesn’t mean we should relax, and we should continue. From the Health side we continue with our campaigns to educate people about Cholera and diarrhea, to prevent signs and symptoms and to urge those experiencing these them not to waste time and to present themselves to their nearest health facility.”
