
Eskom CEO travels to China as the country faces stage 6 rolling blackouts.
Many South African were left baffled to discover that Eskom’s Acting CEO has travelled to China, as the power utility imposes a record rolling blackouts.
Techcentral reports that Eskom Chairman Mpho Makwana said by phone on Wednesday, Calib Cassim accompanied South African Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan on the trip to Beijing,
He also didn’t provide further details regarding the trip. but stated that Gordhan is there to resolve a dispute between a Chinese state company and South Africa’s state logistics group, Transnet.
The news have left many with questions as to the timing of the visit, particularly with the continuous blackout happening in the country.

Build One South Africa Leader, Mmusi Maimane took to social media to also question, “Why is the acting Eskom CEO in China while South Africa is experiencing over 10 hours of load shedding a day?”
He also demanded answers for the following:
- The reasons for Acting CEO Callib Cassim’s attendance on this trip to China,
- The official capacity in which Mr Cassim attended?,
- The full cost of the trip?,
- Who authorized the trip?
