DJ Zinhle has backed out of her performance at Fact Durban Rocks, saying she is not ready to visit the city where the father of her eldest daughter was gunned down.
Zinhle was set to perform at the event taking place on 01 July, the same day as the Durban July. But the businesswoman and mother of two feels it’s too soon.
In an interview with TshisaLive, Zinhle said as much as she is not mad at Durban or the people, she doesn’t feel she’ll be ready to visit the city anytime soon.
“I cannot lie to you guys, I’m not ready for Durban. Emotionally, I’m not ready at all. I get a little anxious thinking about being in Durban. It’s going to be a while before I can be in Durbs.
It’s just hard. It’s only been 3-months since Kiernan died, so maybe with time.”

Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes was gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road, Durban on 10 February. The slain rapper is the father of Zinhle’s eldest daughter, Kairo Forbes.
Zinhle shared that she has a deep desire to go to the exact spot where Kiernan was shot execution-style, and just be there.
As much as she knows his soul is no longer there, being at the last place he was alive might help bring her some peace.
Zinhle’s decision to back out of her Durban performance was applauded by music producer, Nota Baloyi.
Nota said more artists should boycott the Durban July instead of making money out of the city that took the life of one of South Africa’s biggest artists.
“DJ Zinhle is doing the right thing unlike those pretentious friends that are making money off of Kiernan’s death.”
All South African artists should boycott Durban July… Imagine going to a city that is moving on after murdering the father of your first born? DJ Zinhle is doing the right thing unlike those pretentious friends that are making money off of Kiernan’s death instead! #JusticeForAKA
