Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (CHBAH), Gauteng’s largest hospital, has reportedly been experiencing food shortages, which are affecting patients’ health and well-being.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene spoke to Acting CFO Gauteng Department of Health, Masibolekwe Ndima on the Gauteng Health Department’s action to prevent food shortage for patients, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in light of news that the Hospital facing serious food shortages.

“We have accessed the situation, and we have noticed that a number of things have been exaggerated. Firstly people have been getting food at Bara, what has happened is that certain ingredients have been missing from their food, like poultry, was not available.
“When we checked what the problem was it was on the suppliers side, where there were issues of capabilities on delivery on items which have protein. The situation has been mitigated as the service provider has delivered and all is well.” says Ndima,
Ndima said that they spoke to the Hospital staff confirmed that there were problem with the service provider.
He also outline the process of acquiring, storing and accounting for the food at the hospital while sharing some of the immediate challenges that they face as the department.
