Transport minister Fikile Mbalula has announced that the country’s only drivers license card machine has been repaired and is now fully back in operation.
A relief for many motorists, the machine breakdown made headlines as it had reportedly caused a massive backlog of 383 000 licence cards as of December 1.
Mbalula shared a video on social media on Wednesday (26 January), assuring the nation everything is back in order.

He said that staff at the Driving Licence Card Account (DLCA) were now working around the clock to address the country’s licence backlog.

The machine is said to be older than 20 years.

The Transport department had also said that it plans issue a contract for procuring a new machine in the 2020/2021 financial year.
