What living through a pandemic has taught many South Africans is that at any given moment life can go upside down.
The truth is, adversity is inevitable, it comes with it an intense emotional rollercoaster that carries with it heavy life changes.
The chaos from the world has a strange way of displacing you, making you dysfunctional if you don’t heal from the things that happen in your life.
Though we may not have control of what happens to us, we sure have control of how we heal from it.
Self-healing is basically an effort to heal inner wounds.

Phemelo Motene spoke to Lebo Pule – a sought after speaker on entrepreneurship, leadership, gender, and social matter who unpacked the process of healing.
Where do you start the process of healing?
Pule reflected on the day’s tragic societal stories and said, “The trauma that we experience on the day feels like water on the back of a duck.”
“Only upon reflection, maybe upon some silence, only then to we realise that this is serious, this is deep.”

What does healing mean?
Pule spoke about how healing is moving from something that is harmful to you and others, and how society nowadays is full of hurt people. She also reminded Kaya 959 listeners of the saying, ‘hurt people, hurt people.”
“If you don’t understand what healing is, you won’t understand how deep your personal pain is, and you won’t understand how deep is the collective pain.”
“What you see on Twitter, where we immediately turn to memes and laugh, for me, talks to how we don’t understand how deeply wounded we are, we haven’t even looked at it.”
To heal is to change a pattern, or a habit, or behaviour, or a belief system, you want to change something that is harmful, that is negative, towards something that is positive. “
“You want to return to wholeness, you want to return to where you felt you originally were.”
“To use a physical wound for example, if you break your knee you want to heal that so that it can get restored back to its original health. So that you are able to walk, you are able to run, even so much so that you are able to run a marathon. “
An incident in your life can be a stimulus that breaks old habits and generates change.
You must allow time to bring healing – most importantly, you must be willing to be a healed person.
