Exam regulator Umalusi has approved the release of the 2020 national senior certificate exam on February 23.
Umalusi Council Chairperson, John Volmink, says irregularities recorded during the exams did not affect the credibility of the exams.
The council assesses results for both public and private examinations.
Probe into exam cheating
The results approval comes as investigations are ongoing into the extent of Mathematics Paper 2 and Physical Sciences Paper 2 leaks last year.
Volmink, however, says the results of the 893 candidates involved and implicated in the exam paper leak should be blocked.
He says the council noted the isolated irregularities reported as well as group copying cases reported in four provinces.
“Where there has been unauthorised access to question papers, and where there is evidence beyond being a passive recipient of the papers, the results of the implicated candidates should be blocked pending further investigation. In all other cases, the results should be released,” Volmink said.
The Independent Examinations Board will release its results on Friday, February 19.
Umalusi says seven matric makers passed away due to COVID-19.
