Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain and Bafana defender Hlompho Kekana has offered advice to his former teammate Khama Billiat.
Issuing an update on Billiat’s situation recently, Amakhosi revealed that they offered Billiat a new contract to stay at the club following the conclusion of his previous contract. However, to date, the player has not responded to the offer or any attempts to contact him.
Hlompho Kekana believes that going to play abroad could be the best option for the midfielder.
“If I were him, I was easily going to take that move [to the UAE] to start afresh in an environment where it’s new for you. In South Africa, it’s going to be difficult for him because he hasn’t played enough football in the last three years,” he said on SABC’s Soccer Zone.
“As a striker of Khama’s calibre, you’re only as good as your last match. You’ll be expected to score goals because you have shown us what you can do.”
In 2022, Hlompho Kekana announced his retirement from the beautiful game through a lengthy, heartfelt letter.
Hlompho shared that, as a kid growing up in Limpopo, it had always been his dream to play football. He also gave a special shoutout to his mother who played a significant role in his career.
Her sacrifices allowed me to chase my dream, and the advice she continues to give is filled with wisdom, even if sometimes I was too young to fully understand the value.
