Following the 2026 FIFA World Cup, legendary South African coach Pitso Mosimane has shifted the national football conversation back to grass-roots development with the launch of The Youth Football Coaching Manual.
Drawing on over two decades of continental and international coaching experience, Mosimane’s resource provides a practical, age-appropriate framework designed to build technically, physically, and mentally resilient young players while adapting global standards to local realities.
Reframe the debate from raw potential to structured support, Mosimane stressed that the nation’s footballing future depends on foundational training rather than a shortage of natural ability:
“South African football doesn’t have a talent problem. It has a development challenge. We have gifted young players in every community across this country.
The question is whether we’re providing them with the coaching, support and environment they need to fulfil their potential.”
The manual forms the first stage of a broader continent-wide initiative focusing on coach education, community engagement, and multi-sector collaboration between parents, schools, federations, and private partners to ensure sustainable, long-term success.
The next chapter of youth football starts now.
