PSL Champions Mamelodi Sundowns were sent crashing out of the CAF Champions League following a one-nil loss to Tunisian side ES Tunis on Friday in Pretoria.
Sundowns, who wasted multiple chances in front of goal, suffered their first defeat in 38 matches at home across all competitions.
Speaking to the media after the game, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena said that losing in the semis is unpleasant.
“It is a difficult feeling. We’ve been talking about improving our performances to give ourselves a chance to win. If I felt that we dominated in Tunisia I don’t know what narrative to use. I said to the players that these types of games are about margins. “

In 2023, Mamelodi Sundowns extended the contract of Coach Rhulani Mokwena after agreeing on a 4-year contract extension that will see Mokwena at the club until 2027.
“We are excited that we have finalized the contract negotiations and look forward to more success and wonderful memories with the Yellow Nation, along with four more years of hard work and dedication from our Head Coach and the Technical Team.
“The Club strongly believes that the talented Coach will take Mamelodi Sundowns to the heights that it deserves to be, but the Chairman highlighted the important role that the supporters will play in the season ahead. With our supporters cheering us on throughout our big games- there’s every chance that Coach Rulani and his technical team will achieve our ambitious goals for the football club.”
