After securing a win on Monday and edging closer to clinching their 7th consecutive DStv Premiership title, Mamelodi Sundowns will be heading to the FNB Stadium for a showdown against the mighty Kaizer Chiefs on Thursday night.
Looking ahead to the match before turning their attention to the Nedbank Cup semifinals on Sunday, Masandawana coach Rhulani Mokwena is expecting a tough challenge from Kaizer Chiefs on the field.
“Chiefs is Chiefs and we all know that in any day they can turn up. They are a big Club and they deserve incredible respect. They have a good coach and I know him personally because I learnt a lot from him. They’ve got some very good players and they are a team that is capable of beating anybody,” coach Rhulani stated.
“What will be the message for the players? That we are playing against a very big team and our arch-rivals. We are playing an important game which requires us to go there with humility and a lot of respect. I think as a fierce competitor, Coach Cavin Johnson would like to win the game and I think he knows it’s the same with me. Furthermore, winning the title will be very sweet because it’s an important competition for us and it’s an important season.”
Mokwena also gave updates on the injuries of Bongani Zungu and Rivaldo Coetzee.
“Rivaldo is fine, it’s just that he has had a long spell out and to have three games in a row would be difficult for him and would probably mean another breakdown. Zungu looks fine. It’s a deep cut and fortunately, it doesn’t look like anything but a deep wound,” he concluded.
Mamelodi Sundowns will go head-to-head with Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership on Thursday night at the FNB Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 19h30, live on SuperSport TV.
