PSL outfit Cape Town Spurs have parted ways with Bafana legend Shaun Bartlett.
According to a statement shared by the club, the decision follows an extensive review and discussions with Bartlett, and taking into consideration the recent string of bad results, they mutually agreed to the termination of the Head Coach’s contract with immediate effect.
Spurs placed on record their “appreciation for Shaun’s work during his time at the club.”
Bartlett did the near-impossible by leading Cape Town Spurs to PSL promotion this year following their relegation to the National First Division in the 2017–18 season.
When Bartlett took over as coach in October 2021, the team was facing relegation from the first division.
“We recognise this is not an easy decision for all parties, but it has been taken with the club’s long-term interest at heart. Everyone at Cape Town Spurs wishes Shaun Bartlett all the best in his future coaching career. “
CEO Alexi Efstathiou and Technical Director Sean Connor have already begun the restructuring of the coaching setup at the club. A shortlist of candidates has been identified, and an announcement is expected imminently.
