Hysterical bonding, although not extensively researched, is having a strong desire to win your partner back after they cheated on you.
The common reaction to infidelity is to experience grief, physical pain, confusion, sadness, rage, etc.
This is not the case for everyone, some people who have been cheated on by partners may experience an entirely different range of emotions.
Some might feel the need to hold on, in both the metaphorical and physical sense – you might sleep with them and improve the sex life in order to make them stay.
It could be because of self-blame, seeking out comfort, or simply wanting to feel like won the whole situation.
A listener tells The Best T in the City with Tbose:
“My partner, who said cheating was a deal-breaker once cheated on me.
“I also agreed that if any of us cheat then the relationship would be over. But when it happened I think I experienced hysterical bonding.
“A part of me wanted to stay because of the love I have for him but at the same time, I really hate him for what he did to me,” she shared.
