Tomorrow, 27 April 2022, we celebrate Freedom Day, commemorating the first post-apartheid elections held on the same day in 1994.
Today on The Morning show Thomas And Skhumba asked: “Do you think your kids fully understand and appreciate what Freedom Day means to South Africa?”
We hear from the kids themselves on what Freedom Day means to them.
“What I understand about Freedom Day is that it’s the day South Africa celebrates the time that we got freed from apartheid and I think it’s good that this country is free and all that, but this country is so free that we have corruption. So it’s good, but in another way – it’s bad,” a Kaya listener’s child expresses.
Andile shares: “Freedom Day means I can do whatever I want, whenever I want and however I want. I will not be restricted.”
Another kid had this to say: “Freedom Day is just for you to sleep and stay home. No school no nothing, just sleep.”
