On his departure from Al Ahly
“It was about time, a very difficult decision to make, but I voluntarily left and of course, it was a shock to everybody and the club. I just felt it was the time to leave, I had renewed the contract last year and had thought I would stay longer, but every good thing comes to an end.”
“I felt that I must just give a hand over to the next coach and just let them take the team to a higher level.” says Mosimane.

On leadership in sports
Mosimane spoke about how intense being a coach is from a leadership perspective and said it is very difficult to hide from accountability
“I just feel that football has been ahead of business in terms of leadership and it is a little bit tougher than business. When you speak about CEOs, when do they report to their shareholders? Maybe once or twice a year, we in football report every 3 days to our people and supporter. We are scrutinised by the media every 3 days, with every match. So you can’t hide. says Mosimane
Mosimane’s record-breaking stint at Al Ahly
During his time with Al Ahly, Mosimane unquestionably solidified his reputation as one of Africa’s best by winning back-to-back CAF Champions League championships.
Since joining Al Ahly from Mamelodi Sundowns in 2020, Mosimane has presided over 97 competitive games.
He won an astounding 65 of the 97 games, drew 22 and lost just 10, notably twice in the CAF Champions League against his former team Sundowns.
In his first few months in charge, he won his first CAF Champions League championship; his second came in his first full season.
If Al Ahly had defeated Wydad Athletic Club in the May final, Mosimane might have won three consecutive CAF Champions League championships.

On Pitso Mosimane Soccer School
In May 2022 he announced that he will be opening the Pitso Mosimane soccer school, which is a football programme that develops young football players with the aim of “creating the player of tomorrow”. This will officially be launched in September.
Speaking about the programme he said “I just feel like I don’t want to be a coach that everyone knows as the coach of this team and that team, who won this trophy and that trophy, where does all of that end? I just feel I want to leave a legacy behind, and also I know where I come from. I just feel I can give a helping hand to somebody.”
