Mondays have a bad reputation for being THAT day that no one particularly likes. The Monday blues hit most adults and children too, so you’re not alone if you dread waking up and Mondaying.
While Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana has all the right vibes to help get you through a blue Monday, listeners shared how the start of their week is going.
Now, while you may not be jumping out of bed to get your day started on a Monday, experts say you should stop attaching so much negativity to “just another” day of the week.
“Living for the weekend” is not a successful strategy or way to approach life, which may explain why so many of us view Mondays in such a bad light.
Instead of anticipating the opportunities and productivity of a new work week, we approach the start (Monday) with disdain and automatically consider it, “too much effort.”
Changing your mindset around Mondays is not going to come easy and will take time to accept Mondays with almost as much enthusiasm as we do Fridays.
Listen to the Feel Good conversation here:
Beat the Monday blues
- Mondays feel longer
What is it about Mondays that make the day seem longer and like it’s dragging by? It’s the same 24-hours in the day, so something doesn’t add up.
It’s not that the day is longer, it’s just that you have a lot more to get through on a Monday than you do as the week is wrapping up. This makes the day seem longer. The key is to prioritize your daily tasks and work systematically to get through the day efficiently.
- Rest well on weekends
South Africans love the social scene and weekends are generally spent drinking and socialising out and about. This does mean that a “babalas” on Mondays is likely, leaving one feel lethargic and unmotivated to tackle a Monday.
It’s important to rest on weekends to give your body ample time to recover from a weekend of partying and the good life.

- Misery loves company
Your environment will influence the kind of day you have and it’s important to surround yourself with positive energy. If you have colleagues who are negative about Monday too, avoid them so you can focus your energy on changing your feelings to a more positive source of inspiration.
You love Mondays and Mondays love you! That’s the only mantra you need.
- Start the week looking powerful
A good outfit can go a long way to help you feel invincible. Working from the outside in, looking and feeling good may help turn your Monday around.
Spend some time on Sunday grooming yourself and picking your outfit for Monday. Choose a colour that uplifts your mood. Receiving compliments on your look for the day can also help improve how you receive the day.
