This morning we kicked off a new feature on The Morning Show with Thomas and Skhumba called The Kitchen.
They hung out with soccer legend Brian ‘Spiderman’ Baloyi and Chef Naledi who prepared something for us to nibble on before the show ends.
During the show, Brian opened up about fatherhood and supporting his wife through breast cancer.
“Some of the things that I tell people and friends growing up is that you can never want to take your situation or things that you see happen to you and make them an excuse. One thing that I always said was I don’t want my kids to experience what I experienced.
I always wanted to make sure that I become a good father,” he shares.
He’s got two boys, one in matric and the other in grade 1.
“The family is doing good; my older son is in matric now. The other one has just started grade one.”
On supporting his wife through breast cancer
“First it was something scary because we thought it was something that only happened to white people. At the time I didn’t have much information. I had to do a lot of research and support my wife,” he said in part.
Chef Naledi on getting her family involved in cooking
Chef Naledi prepared a beef and broccoli stir fry with Couscous. The renowned chef says it was important to get her children involved in cooking from early on.
“I involve my children in the planning and the grocery list. Eighty percent of the time they are the ones who do the grocery list. I’m talking about an eleven-year-old and a thirteen-year-old. They cook, they pack their own lunch boxes.
“They’ve been doing that because one thing I know is that I am not a superhero. So, I am not prepared to get up early hours to pack lunch boxes for the rest of my life,” she told Thomas and Skhumba.
