Update: The Plettenberg Bay Rage festival, also known as Plett Rage, has since been cancelled due to schools reporting an increase in COVID-19 cases.
Officials have reiterated calls for large gatherings to be postponed in light of the looming fourth wave of COVID-19 infections.
Health experts say the current spike in case numbers leaves event-goers vulnerable to disease.
The call comes as organisers of the Plettenberg Bay Rage event announced that they will not cancel.
Organizers say testing will be carried out on a daily basis and only those who are fully vaccinated will be allowed in.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) is urging South Africans to avoid events that may become superspreaders.

Ballito Rage Festival Cancelled
On Wednesday, organisers of the Ballito Rage festival in KwaZulu-Natal were forced to cancel the event after 36 people tested positive for COVID-19.
Four staff members and 32 guests presented positive results.
The festival opened on Tuesday with strict COVID-19 protocols. All guests and staff had to be vaccinated. They were also required to take pre-arrival COVID-19 tests.
“On Tuesday all remaining staff and all guests underwent COVID-19 tests at the testing centre near the event site prior to entering the event. Between 2pm and 10pm, 940 guests and staff were tested and 32 guests and 4 staff presented positive results.
“The Department of Health was on-site and worked together with our team to conduct contact tracing and ensure isolation of positive individuals and staff as per government protocols,” organisers said.
