Jacob Zuma’s disciplinary hearing has been postponed until after the National and Provincial elections.
This after the African National Congress’ (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula cited security concerns and called for the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) to stand in abeyance until after the 29 May elections.
Zuma, who is contesting the elections under the newly formed uMkhonto weSizwe (MK Party) was initially summoned to appear before the NDC on Tuesday, 07 May.
Following his suspension from the ANC in January for his endorsement and campaigning initiatives advocating for the MK Party, Zuma is still a member of the ANC.
However, the former President’s name is on the ballots in the upcoming election under the MK Party.
On Friday, 03 May the MK Party confirmed that Zuma will present himself before the committee at Luthuli House as he has nothing to hide.
Reacting to the ANC postponing Zuma’s disciplinary hearing, the MK Party says the proposed virtual meeting by the ANC was rejected, and Zuma has sought legal advice regarding the postponement notice.
“President Zuma has sought legal advice on the latest notice and a formal response will be sent to the NDC Chairperson within the next 24-hours.
MK Party also rejects the latest false allegations by the ANC of Ramaphosa of possible violence if our members come ou to demonstrate their support for President Zuma, and as usual in a peaceful manner.
MK Party and its members, have demonstrated in various cities and at different courts in South Africa without a single incident of violence.
This can only mean that any acts of violence will therefore come from the aNC.
We take these threats of violence very seriously and they will be referred to the IEC should the need arise.
In the meantime, at the request of President Zuma, MK Party has agreed that it will no longer come to Luthuli House due to the ANC’s threats of violence which could lead to a possible repeat of the Shell House Massacre or even the Marikana Massacre which was masterminded by Cyril Ramaphosa and his white monopoly friends in mining.”
The MK Party said Zuma would resort to attending his disciplinary hearing alone on Tuesday, but the ANC maintains that the matter will only be dealt with after the elections.
