The George Municipality has confirmed the death toll in the tragic apartment building collapse has climbed to 7.
Since the 5-storey building collapse in a construction site on Monday, 06 May, 36 people have been retrieved as of Wednesday, 08 May.
Of the 36 retrieved, 7 have been declared dead, 16 are in a critical condition, 6 are being treated for life-threatening injuries and 7 workers sustained minor injuries.
A total of 39 workers who were on site when the building collapsed are still unaccounted for.
An estimated 75 construction workers were on site when the building collapsed on Victoria Street, George.
A cause for the building collapse is unknown at this stage and an investigation is underway to determine what caused the 5-storey building from collapsing.
Rescue operations continue to retrieve the remaining workers, and the rescue operation is now approaching 45-hours.
