Western Cape Disaster Management has confirmed the death toll in the George building collapse has risen to 5, while 49 others are still missing.
This after a building in a construction site collapsed on Monday, 06 May in George, Western Cape.
The bodies of 5 construction workers were pulled from the rubble as rescue efforts continue, with about 25 people rescued so far.
George Mayor, Leon van Wyk said teams have been working around the clock to retrieve 49 others.
An estimated 75 construction workers were on site when the building collapsed on Victoria Street.
A cause for the building collapse is unknown at this stage and an investigation is underway to determine what caused the 5-storey building from collapsing.
Mayor van Wyk said the Western Cape Disaster Management is monitoring the situation.
