Two bodies were recovered from the Hennops River by the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Swift Water Rescue Team divers on Tuesday, 23 December 2025.
The incident follows a flooding event on Sunday, 21 December, when the City of Tshwane Emergency Services Department responded to reports of a vehicle swept away by rising waters in Centurion.
City of Tshwane EMS spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba told Kaya News that search and rescue operations began immediately after receiving reports of missing persons. The bodies were later found inside the submerged vehicle.

“During the operation, the swift water rescue team located the bodies inside the submerged vehicle. The heavy rainfall had caused water levels to rise and river currents to become extremely strong, creating dangerous conditions,” the City said in a statement.
Authorities will release the identities of the victims and additional details about the incident once confirmed by SAPS.
The City of Tshwane Emergency Services has urged motorists to exercise caution during heavy rains and to avoid crossing flooded roads or low-lying bridges.
