A massive search and rescue operation is underway in Amanzimtoti following catastrophic flash flooding that has left one person dead and three others missing.
The tragedy occurred late Sunday night when torrential rain overwhelmed local infrastructure, causing a vehicle on Longacres Drive to be swept away by rising torrents.
Specialised rescue teams and ALS Paramedics intensified their efforts on Monday morning to locate the three missing occupants.
While one fatality has been confirmed, the search remains hampered by significant debris, submerged bridges, and mudslides that have cut off several areas south of Durban.

The South African Weather Service has maintained high-level alerts as the relentless storm system continues to impact both KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
In Gauteng, a Yellow Level 4 warning remains in place after persistent downpours saturated the soil and overwhelmed urban drainage systems over the weekend.

Emergency services remain on high alert, monitoring vulnerable settlements and low-lying areas.
Residents across the affected provinces have been urged to avoid travel where possible, as further disruptive rain and severe thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of the day.
