Well-known broadcaster, Tom London has been moved to a private medical facility after his tirade against Helen Joseph over the weekend.
With the help of public donations, London has now been booked into the Morningside Mediclinic and he shared more about his ordeal at the public facility with Kaya News.
In a private hospital room, London who has since showered, and is fresh-faced after a shave, clarified that his remarks about Helen Joseph has nothing to do with his actual medical treatment at the facility.
Instead, he highlighted the lack of human dignity and respect from healthcare professionals, empathy and no proper systems in place.
“Clinically, I’m not criticising the level of care at Helen Joseph, but that’s my experience, I’ve heard other people say that they’ve had bad clinical care at Helen Joseph.
My criticism of Helen Joseph, besides the bad infrastructure, food, beds and broken things, is the attitude of the doctors towards the patients. I think that’s a problem that you don’t need an MEC or Premier to fix.
I think that’s a problem that as a human being you look in the mirror and ask yourself if you’re talking to people with dignity and kindness and if your answer is no, then you can self-reflect and fix it in 1-second for yourself because you know how to treat people kindly.
What’s happening inside Helen Joseph is that the doctors, and a majority of the doctors that I encountered, treating people around me and some of them treating me, do not say hello, do not introduce themselves, they’re not kind at all. In fact you start feeling like you’re a sub-human by the very people who’s supposed to make you feel better.”

Highlighting patient mistreatment, negligence and health concerns at Helen Joseph, Tom London details an incident where a fellow patient’s dead body lay in the same room as him for hours.
London shared that after what must have been 3 to 4 hours later, the room was infested with hundreds of flies and he was terrified that he was going to contract another illness or sickness as a result.
The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) has said that it will look into a complaint that a patient at Johannesburg’s Helen Joseph Hospital made.
