The Labour Court found in favour of the 130 employees who were being laid off by the City of Johannesburg.
The 130 employees of the City of Johannesburg were fighting to keep their jobs.
Judge Prinsloo ordered the municipality to pay the costs, which included the fees of two attorneys.
The termination, as well as all acts stemming from it, as well as the Council Resolution of February 25, 2022, have been successfully interdicted.
Following a contract dispute, the 130 employees filed a lawsuit against the metropolitan municipality in March.
The workers’ permanent employment has been reversed by the City of Joburg’s council.
Mpho Phalatse, the mayor of Joburg at the time, stated the council had made a decision after the South African Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) and the employees’ lawyers missed the deadline to file any legal challenges to the move.
