The controversies at Stellenbosch University are never-ending it seems as allegations of a hostel rape surfaces.
This after a week of racially motivated incidents were highlighted after a white student had urinated on a first-year black student’s belongings.
Then further reports of racial discrimination were brought to light when a female Indian student was receiving counselling after being racially profiled at a dance.
Now, the university is rocked by the alleged rape of a 19-year old student which took place on the campus on Tuesday, night.
A male student has since been arrested for the alleged incident which took place around 22h30 on 17 May.
According to the South African, SAPS confirmed that the victim had reported the rape on Wednesday.
The university acknowledges the alleged hostel rape and further confirmed the accused is a student at the institution.
It has been reported that the accused student will be removed from the campus residence until the internal and criminal investigations conclude.
Spokesperson for the university, Martin Viljoen said, “the victim is currently safe and received the necessary examination at the Stellenbosch Provincial Hospital. She was accompanied to the hospital by SAPS after reporting the incident. She has received medication and primary counselling.”
