Six people have been killed in KwaZulu-Natal following heavy rainfalls which caused flooding and mudslides.
Among those who died are a mother and father whose house collapsed during a mudslide in the early hours of Thursday morning in kwaMakhutha.
According to reports, their two children managed to flee to safety before the house collapsed. However, the parents’ bodies were recovered from beneath their home.
A third body of a man in his thirties was recovered at a neighbouring house after his house also collapsed during the early morning mudslide.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi reportedly gave an update on the death toll on Thursday.
He also confirmed that a child was swept away while crossing a river in Eshowe.
“Tragically since last [Wednesday] night six people have died due to the heavy floods in Durban, in areas around kwaMakhutha where two members of the families the house collapsed while they were sleeping inside, and Umlazi three people died because of the mudslides and in Eshowe a young child was swept away while trying to cross a river,” Buthelezi told EWN.
Buthelezi said disaster teams will be visiting the homes of those affected by the recent rains.
