Kaya News can exclusively confirm that Keneilwe Shalaba (33) has given birth while in police custody.
Shalaba was arrested in November after allegedly trafficking her son, Kutlwano (2), and then lying to police that the child had been kidnapped.
She has been charged with human trafficking, conspiracy to commit crime, and perjury.
Meanwhile, Kutlwano is still missing.
Shalaba’s bail application has been underway at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court where she cited her pregnancy with twins among reasons for bail.
The State opposed her application with police further raising concerns about the safety of the unborn children.
Shalaba’s lawyer has since confirmed that she gave birth to one child earlier this week.
The mother of four remains in custody with her newborn at the Sun City Correctional Centre.
Her bail judgment was due to be handed down tomorrow but may be postponed as Shalaba recovers.
