- Petrol prices in South Africa are set to decrease, offering some relief to motorists.
- Conversely, diesel users will face another significant price hike due to global supply issues.
- The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources attributed the changes to global oil market factors and the rand-dollar exchange rate.
South African motorists are facing a divided fuel price landscape as petrol is set to become cheaper from Wednesday, while diesel users will be hit with another significant increase.
From midnight, the price of both 93 and 95 unleaded petrol will decrease by 28 cents per litre.
- Diesel increase by 65c a litre
- Paraffin increase by 43c
- LP Gas drops by 69c p/kg
This provides some relief after a 52-cent hike in July, which was attributed to heightened oil price gains following geopolitical tensions between Israel and the US and Iran.
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources stated that the hike in diesel and paraffin prices is a result of tight supplies. This is due to low stock levels in the US and the unplanned shutdown and closure of several refineries in the European Union.
