
Pope Francis hospitalised following a respiratory infection.
According to the Vatican, Pope Francis needs to spend a few days in the hospital in Rome due to a respiratory illness.
Despite not having Covid, the 86-year-old has recently had respiratory problems, according to a statement.
Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni said: “In the past days, Pope Francis had lamented some respiratory difficulties and this afternoon was brought to the Gemelli Hospital for a medical check,”
“The result of these [tests] highlighted a respiratory infection (excluding COVID-19 infections) that will require several days of appropriate hospital treatment,”
“Pope Francis is touched by the many messages received and expressed his gratitude for the closeness and prayer,”

According to the Italian news agency ANSA, the pope’s engagements for Thursday and Friday have been cancelled.
The agency also stated that the pope has already undergone a lung CT scan and that his blood saturation levels are normal.
It added that no signs of cardiac disease had been found.
