Queen Ntokozo Mayisela made an appearance at the annual Umkhosi Wamaganu (Marula Festival).
The traditional event took place at the Emachobeni Royal palace in Northern KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, 8 March 2025.
According to a report by Newzroom Afrika, the queen arrived with her two sons and not alongside the king as she usually would in her capacity as queen.
Her seat was also vacant, indicating that she was expected at the event.
King Misuzulu KaZwelithini is said to have acknowledged the queen’s presence and it appears that even though the couple is divorcing, she is still regarded as the Ndlunkulu (first wife).
This was the first time Queen Mayisela was spotted at an event since King Misuzulu’s traditional wedding ceremony to his third wife, Nomzamo Myeni, was put on hold indefinitely.

In January, King Misuzulu announced that he would formally marry Nomzamo Myeni in a traditional Shembe Church wedding ceremony (Umgcagco) on Sunday, 26 January 2025.
Around the same time it was revealed that Misuzulu had filed for a divorce from one of his wives citing the breakdown of their marriage as the reason.
In the court papers filed at the Pietermaritzburg High Court, the king offered maintenance of R20 000 a month for a year after the divorce is finalised.
The wife, whose identity had been withheld to protect the identity of their children, was later revealed to be Mayisela after she filed for a court interdict to halt the king’s wedding to Myeni.
Mayisela argued that it is unlawful for the king to marry another woman while he is in a civil union with her.
The case was struck off the roll.
King Misuzulu and Mayisela have been married since 2001 and have two children together.
Misuzulu is also married to his second wife Queen Nozizwe Mulela kaMakhubu who hails from the Kingdom of eSwatini.
