On September 29, 2022, Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, a former deputy president of South Africa, was formally installed as Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
She succeeds Professor Njabulo Ndebele, whose tenure as the university’s third chancellor expires on September 30, 2022.
Prior to the opening ceremony, Dr. Mlambo-Ngcuka stated that recent years have seen a dramatic transformation in both the face of higher education and the proper management of universities.
“This responsibility of Chancellor at one of the greatest and pioneering universities in South Africa is a huge honour for me. I will be building on the success of Prof Ndebele and his guidance that saw the institution becoming the national standard bearer for transformation, equity, access, Pan-Africanism and global excellence.” said Mlambo-Ngcuka.
