Oscar Pistorius is to be placed on parole on Friday, 05 January as confirmed by the Department of Correctional Services.
The decision was taken by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB) on 24 November to let Oscar walk free.
Oscar, a former Paralympian who was sentenced to 6 years in 2014 for shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and had his sentence increased to 13 years and 5 months in 2017, was relieved to hear his parole application was granted.
Under his parole conditions, Oscar is prohibited from consuming alcohol and other intoxicating substances.
Oscar is also expected to undergo therapy for anger and gender-based violence, as well as mandatory community service.
“The above means that Pistorius shall be admitted into the system of Community Corrections and will be monitored until the expiry date of his sentence in 2029.
An elevated public profile linked to Pistorius does not make him different from other inmates nor warrants inconsistent treatment.
The general parole conditions will apply to Pistorius, for example, he will be expected to be home at particular hours of the day.
Participation in other programmes that would have been identified by the CSPB will be compulsory for him. Oscar Pistorius is restricted from conducting media interviews.”

The time of Oscar’s release has not been disclosed due to safety reasons, and the Department’s concerns to manage those risks.
As a result, the Department says while media may opt to camp outside the correctional facility to get moving visuals of Oscar Pistorius, it will not be possible as the South African criminal justice system does not parade inmates and parolees.
