The murder case of two suspects accused of killing Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Member of Parliament, Khethamabala Sithole, has been postponed to 12 June 2025.
This comes after the accused appeared before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Thursday,5 June.
Sithole, who served as the IFP’s Parliamentary Deputy Chief Whip, was shot and killed on Saturday, 31 May at the Buyafuthi Hostel in Katlehong, where he was attending a political meeting.
IFP national spokesperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa, expressed hope that all those involved in the killing will ultimately be held accountable.
“We are encouraged by the announcement from the Office of the Provincial Commissioner in Gauteng regarding the breakthrough in this case, and we continue to place our trust in the justice system to ensure that all those involved — not just the two suspects arrested — are brought to book.
We further urge the SAPS to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the full truth behind this assassination,” said Hlengwa.
Meanwhile, the IFP’s Gauteng provincial chairperson, Bonginkosi Dhlamini, said Sithole’s death was not politically motivated.
“Firstly, I would like to extend my condolences to the family and all IFP members. We are deeply saddened by this untimely death. However, we are relieved that the suspects appeared in court today.
We also urge anyone with information to come forward and assist the police so that those responsible for this senseless killing can be brought to justice,” said Dhlamini.
