The community of Randhart in Alberton, south of Johannesburg has been shaken by the brutal murders of a mother and her 9-year-old son, who were reportedly hacked to death.
Nadine Terblanche and her son Ruandré Vorster were found murdered in their home on Monday, 27 November at approximately 18h05.
The boy was in Grade 3 at Laerskool Randhart.
Police have arrested a 37-year-old man who was working as a gardener for the family.
It is reported that the owner of the house, Nadine’s long-term partner, arrived home only to be attacked by his gardener who was allegedly yielding an axe.
The partner and father were able to alert a security guard, which led to the gardener being apprehended.
Nadine and Ruandré’s bodies were discovered inside their home with severe injuries, and both were certified dead on the scene.
The suspect was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and is expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court, in Katlehong on Wednesday, 29 November.
A motive for the murders of the mother and 9-year-old son has not been established at this stage.
Messages of shock and outrage over Nadine and Ruandré’s brutal murders have been flooding social media since.
