- The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party has filed a no-confidence motion against President Ramaphosa.
- The motion largely concerns Ramaphosa’s handling of matters related to former Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
- This latest attempt to remove the President coincides with Mandela Day, a date previously associated with similar efforts.
The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party has confirmed it has formally tabled a motion of no confidence against President Cyril Ramaphosa in Parliament.
The move, announced by the party, primarily cites Ramaphosa’s handling of issues related to former Police Minister Senzo Mchunu as the basis for their challenge.
This latest attempt to unseat the President notably coincides with Mandela Day, a date that has seen previous efforts to remove Ramaphosa from office.
Previous attempts to dislodge President Ramaphosa have often converged around significant national dates, with Mandela Day having been a focal point for political manoeuvring against him in the past.
This latest motion from the newly established MK Party signals a continuation of political pressure on the President within the parliamentary arena.
The filing of a motion of no confidence triggers a parliamentary process that will involve debate and a vote by Members of Parliament.
The outcome will depend on the support garnered from other political parties in the National Assembly.
