Lionel Messi confirms his retirement after Fifa World Cup 2022 final.
After Sunday’s FIFA World Cup 2022 final, Lionel Messi announced that he would stop playing for his country.
The former Barcelona player gave Argentina its first World Cup appearance since 2014 by starting the scoring and assisting two-goal hero Julian Alvarez.
Following a convincing 3-0 victory over Croatia in Tuesday’s semi-final, Messi assisted Argentina in advancing to the final.

Messi remarked in an interview with an Argentine media site Diario Deportivo Ole that this is definitely his last World Cup.
“I feel very happy, to be able to achieve this, to finish my World Cup journey by playing my last game in a final.”
“It’s many years for the next one and I don’t think I’ll be able to do it. And to finish like this, it’s the best,”
“It’s all well and good (the records), but the important thing is to be able to achieve the group objective, which is the most beautiful thing of all,”
“We’re just one step away, after fighting hard, and we’re going to give everything to try to make it happen this time.” said Messi
