Lesiba Secondary High School released a statement on behalf of the parents of the deceased boys to set the record straight on the reported shootout that happened at the school.
On 13 January the Gauteng Department of Education released a media statement with the heading, “Lesiba Secondary Learners involved in fatal shootout”.
The statement reported that two Grade 10 learners were involved in an argument that led to one of the boys shooting the other in the head, before killing himself.

The reported incident happened on Wednesday, 12 January.
Lesiba Secondary High School reports that the two deceased boys, Njabulo Ndhlebe and Zukiso Majola were friends and that the reports made are completely inaccurate.
According to the statement, the two boys along with a third friend who will remain unnamed, snuck out of school during their break time to hang out together at home.
During this time, Majola showed his friends a gun that used to belong to his grandfather who had passed.
According to reports, Majola and his grandfather were fond of one another.
Majola took the gun during December without his parent’s knowledge in remembrance of his grandfather.
While trying to impress his friends, the gun accidentally went off, shooting Ndhlebe behind the ear.
The panic that ensued led to Majola turning the gun on himself.
“As parents of the two grieving families, we are deeply saddened and in pain by the loss of our boys.”
“Ndhlebe, Majola, and the third unnamed boy were schoolmates and best friends for a couple of years.”
“There was no quarrelling amongst the boys on the day, and all three are good, teenage boys.”
“The first death was accidental and a tragic mistake, whereas the second death was caused by fear and panic.”
A memorial service will be held at the school on Tuesday, 18 January.
