Sphamandla Mabonga, the man who was killed in a shooting alongside two of his bodyguards at Solo restaurant in Sandton, was a person of interest in a murder-for-hire (contract killing) incident.
Mabonga, the ex-boyfriend of reality TV star Londie London, was known in the criminal underworld and linked to several crimes including extortion, intimidation, and murder for hire.
According to a Kaya News report, Mabonga was under investigation by law enforcement agencies in a murder-for-hire incident over the past three years.
Kaya News can confirm that a warrant of arrest was issued for the prominent businessman in a fraud matter.
He was also linked to a case involving a shooting at another Sandton restaurant similar to the incident at Solo last week.
In addition to that, Mabonga was linked to a contract killing incident which dates back to three years ago.
The wanted businessman died at the Solo restaurant last Thursday, 6 March 2025.
He, along with his private security detail, attempted to enter the establishment with firearms despite it having a no-firearm policy.
Subsequently, Mabonga and his men were shot and killed by the security at Solo during the altercation.
Organised Crime expert and investigator at IRS Forensic Investigations (IRS), Chad Thomas, told Kaya News that Mabonga was registered with the private security industry regulatory authority.
Meanwhile, cleaning operations appeared to be underway at Solo restaurant on Friday morning as witnessed by the Kaya News team.
