The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) and the Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious and Linguistic Communities (CRL Rights Commission) will be launching the July 2021 Unrest Investigative Reports on Monday, 29 January.
These reports will be released in a joint effort at the Gateway Hotel, Umhlanga, Durban.
Both Chapter 9 bodies will launch the reports which covers investigations that were done around several issues pertaining to the unrest which broke out predominantly in KwaZulu-Natal in July 2021.
Gauteng also reported a few incidents of unrest, violence and looting, but KZN was the hardest hit.
The unrest which was sparked due to the imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma, claimed the lives of 400 people.
President Cyril Ramaphosa said the economic cost of over R50 billion was just the tip of the iceberg.
According to Ramaphosa, the unrest was used as a smokescreen to carry out acts of economic sabotage with attacks on commercial trucks carrying goods, looting and torching of malls, factories and warehouses and blocking roads and highways.
