Eskom has ramped up loadshedding from Stage 4 to 6 which will be in place indefinitely according to the power utility.
The power utility says the higher stage of loadshedding will be in effect immediately, due to a number of breakdowns which took place since midnight.
No further details has been given as the state-owned entity says a full statement will be released in due course.
Stage 6 comes just hours after Eskom announced Stage 4 on Wednesday, 07 December.
Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented from 12:00 until further notice. This is due to a high number of breakdowns since midnight, as well as the requirement to strictly preserve the remaining emergency generation reserves. Eskom will publish a full statement in due course.

There is no indication yet as to how long the country will be plunged into Stage 6 darkness but for now, the expectation is that this will be the country’s new normal.
With the worst bout of loadshedding in South Africa’s history occurring in 2022, the utility is calling for patience during what it calls a “difficult time.”
