Nigerian afrobeats artist Tems has won a BET Award for Best New Artist at the Soul Train Awards.
The international superstar was nominated alongside fellow Nigerian artists CKay and Fireboy DML.
Tems is also the first African artist to win this category.
“We are excited about the emergence of African talent on the global stage. We will continue to play our part as collaborators and promoters of black excellence,” said Monde Twala the senior vice president and general manager of Paramount Africa and Peer Lead at BET International.
Other Soul Train Award winners include Beyonce, Lizzo, Mary J. Blige, Muni Long and Chris Brown.
In less than a week the Nigerian star will be headlining the Friends Of Amstel event in South Africa on the 10th of December 2022.
Tems took to her Twitter to share the exciting news with her fans.
“South Africa, see you soon,” she shared.
The line-up for Friends of Amstel includes AKA, Amaroto, Shimza, Njelic, Lerato Kganyago, Kamo Mphela, Scorpion Kings, DJ Zinhle, K.O, Samthing Soweto, DBN Gogo and Young Stunna.
