The Pretoria High Court in Palm Ridge has found Nkosinathi Emmanuel Phakathi guilty of 90 charges of rape, four counts of forcible rape, three counts of compelling or causing a minor to observe a sexual act, 43 acts of kidnapping, two counts of assault, and four counts of theft.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPAGauteng)’s spokeswoman, Lumka Mahanjana, stated that Phakathi perpetrated a series of offences in and around Ekurhuleni between 2012 and 2021 when he was captured.
“The majority of his victims were school-going children, the youngest being nine-years-old, while the oldest was a 44-year-old female,”
“He raped some of his victims in the presence of children, in some instances when raping more than one person at a time, he made the other watch while raping the other, whereafter he would run or leave the house,” said Mahanjana.

When Phakathi was detained, DNA evidence and a report on the modus operandi of the crimes connected him to some of the crimes.
Tlala John Mokoena, a SAPS warrant officer, reportedly looked into 96 dockets, according to Mahanjana.
The case has been rescheduled for pre-sentencing and further sentencing proceedings on December 8 and 9.
