The EFF in the Western Cape are calling for Speaker of Cederberg Municipality, John Hayes to step down with immediate effect after his racist social media post, associating the party’s members with monkeys.
Hayes shared images and videos of monkeys hanging onto a car, on Monday when the National Shutdown took place, with the caption, “Be careful. The EFF strike has started.”
He further insinuated that the shutdown was going to start a new looting trend in the country.
In a statement, the EFF condemned the hardcore racist rhetoric displayed by Hayes, a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Cederberg Municipality.
“We are not surprised because this is exactly what the DA-led administration thinks of black people in the Western Cape. Hayes could not hold back his disgusting racism, but decides to spew it in public with an intention to provoke black people and cause psychological harm to those people who participated in the peaceful march.
His conduct has provoked all black residents across the Western Cape, causing crimen injuria in a deliberate attempt to undermine the dignity of black people as race, and for this reason we call on the Premier of the Western Cape, Alan Winde to fire Hayes with immediate effect for racism cannot be tolerated.”
