The Cape Town Regional Court has postponed judgment on the deportation case of former Miss South Africa contestant Chidimma Adetshina until February 2027.
Presiding Magistrate Reema Khorana stated that the lower court cannot determine whether to detain or deport the Nigerian pageant queen while her review application remains pending in the High Court.
Adetshina approached the High Court to challenge the Department of Home Affairs’ decision to deport her.
Addressing the delay and ongoing investigations, the Department of Home Affairs previously noted in a press release:
“The department will provide further updates when appropriate and will not be conducting interviews on the matter at this stage.”
Under the terms of the court order, Adetshina must reside at her fixed address and report regularly to an immigration official.
The ruling caused dissatisfaction among demonstrating crowds from pressure groups, including March and March and Operation Dudula, who gathered outside court awaiting a final deportation decision.
Adetshina said she believed she had been unfairly targeted but would continue using legal channels.
“South Africa is governed by the rule of law, and we should not allow xenophobia and misinformation to determine how people are going to be treated. We should all be guided by the spirit of Ubuntu,” she said, while thanking her family, supporters and legal representatives.
