The mother of Chidimma Adetshina, Anabela Rungo, was given R10 000 bail when she appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
She has also bee placed under house arrest by the State, which has imposed severe bail requirements on her.
Following an examination into Rungo’s citizenship, the Home Affairs department discovered prima facie evidence of fraud in August of last year.
Earlier this month, Rungo, a Mozambican national, was arrested for staying in the country after her South African ID was canceled in September last year.
Rungo is being charged with one offense under the Identification Act and two offenses under the Immigration Act.
Additionally, she is permitted to visit the Home Affairs offices if necessary, but she is not permitted to apply for any paperwork, visit the embassy, or send someone on her behalf.
The case was rescheduled for 8 May in order to conduct additional investigation.
