Police are urging the public not to take the law into their own hands after an angry mob killed a man suspected of hacking an 11-year old girl to death.
Meloding police say the 11-year old was hacked to death with an axe in Stilte Park, Meloding on Saturday, 16 March at 16h00.
The young girl’s body was found in a pool of blood and covered with a blanket.
Community members were present at the crime scene and traced the suspect to his hideout where he was killed by the angry mob.
The deceased girl’s father confirmed that it was his daughter, Nthabiseng Motsoaosile, and she was certified dead on scene.
It is unclear at this stage what the motive for the attack on the 11-year old was.
“The suspect was traced to his hideout where he was killed by angry members of the community in an apparent mob justice attack. He was also certified dead at the crime scene. Double murder cases are being investigated.
Members of the community are sternly warned not to take the law into their own hands but to hand over people believed to be suspects to the police so that a thorough investigation can be conducted.”
