The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) in the Free State will have to act swiftly to take action against one of its branches for its “one bullet, one pit bull’ stance.
This after the league’s Pando Tladi branch put out a disturbing campaign poster calling for people to do whatever it takes to rid the province of the dangerous animals.
With the high rate of pit bull attacks on children across the country, the call for a total ban of the breed in the country has intensified.

There have been a total of four pit bull attacks over the past two weeks on children, with three deaths. This excludes the death of a 10-year old boy from Gqeberha in September.
The latest attack saw a 1-year old toddler from East London mauled to death by a pit bull on Wednesday, 23 November.
Tensions have been high since two pit bulls attacked and killed a three-year old in the Free State on 20 November.
While the owner of the dogs had been arrested, the community were outraged when the 21-year old was released on bail of R300.
Now, the ANCYL’s branch has embarked on the ‘one bullet, one pit bull’ campaign if owners of the vicious animals do not surrender their dogs.
But the league’s regional spokesperson has called for calm as they address the campaign poster with the branch, saying the league does not support the killing of animals or violence.
Ayanda Madona said it was reckless for the branch to call for creative ways to eliminate the dogs if owners don’t cooperate.
“Our only message to the community is that they hand over dogs that they are unable to take care of because they are a threat to society. We will work with the SPCA as far as these processes are concerned.”
